About Mechfest
Mechfest is a national level competition series started in 2013 and now it is completing its fourth edition with a final scheduled at IIT Bombay this time during Techfest on December 18, 2016.The institutions which hosted earlier editions of Mechfest final are IISc Bangalore (2 times), IIT Kanpur(1 time) and we are proud of our earlier associates.

Topic for Presentation

Participants will be required to make presentation on any of the undergiven topic and if possible then come with a working prototype(optional) on the day of event, the topics for presentation are given below:-

1. Smart Automotives
2. Smart City Development with Internet of Things
3. Mobile Application for Public Utility.

What participants will get at IIT Bombay?
1. Certificate of Participation
2. Certificate of Winning/Merit for top participants
3. EISystems Internship Voucher (Worth Rs. 500)
4. Mechfest Starter Kit
5. Chance to meet with like-minded people and a technocratic environment.
6. Guest Lecture with extra certification.
7. Winning Prize Money & Vouchers (Prizes Worth Rs. 25000 on stake)

Who all can participate?
Participants from ECE/EEE/CSE/IT/ME/Automobiles background are eligible to participate in this program.

Is this competition is also open for non-shortlisted participants from zonal rounds?
Yes, this competition is open for every person who wish to participate in Mechfest however shortlisted participants from zonal rounds will get 5 points extra in their initial score but still other participants are having an option to fight for remaining 95 points.

1. Smart Automotives

Understanding Topic

Do you really think that automotives is all about Mechanical engineering only?
Do you really think its all about basics of mechanics and engines? If yes, then probably its a misconception as in current scenario things are going tech savvy and infact even a drop of fuel is calibrated using electronic means, so for the participants who will be choosing this topic for presentation, will be required to make a presentation, where they will be displaying an idea introducing their creativity to design an automobile which works on electronics systems and sensors.

Starting with presentation

You will be required to bring forth some existing problems and then to give your solution in the form

of presentation, an easy example for this will be like Engine Controller Unit where we had introduced

multiple type of sensors along with microcontrollers to control the air-fuel mixture entering into

engine and the result obtained was increase in mileage and overall saving of fuel.

Some of the topics which you may underline in your presentation are given below:-

1. Global Positioning System (GPS)

2. Automatic Park Assist System (APAS)

3. RFID Technology

4. Passenger Safety System using multiple sensors

5. Anti Collision Device etc.

It is to note that we are not looking for presentation on above technologies, we are expecting

participants to make a presentation on the problem identified by you and if you are suggesting any

solution then how will you integrate above given technologies as a part of your solution?
Anything lying in your mind, make it a part of presentation.

We are sure creativity leads innovation.

Showcase your project & increase your winning chance.

Although we know it is really difficult for you to come with a running prototype or project on the day of event but if anybody comes with working prototype then concerned team will be awarded with 20% extra points which they will get in their presentation round. The topic of present and prototype needs to remain same.

2. Smart City Development using IoT

Understanding Topic

All over the world, concrete steps are being taken to make a special type of city, we call them a smart

city. Smart Cities use new technologies to help them reach their diverse goals more efficiently. Some

cities are being made smarter, and some new cities are being designed to be smart from their very

beginnings. The fundamental of designing a smart city is to provide cost efficient services to their

residents and sometimes goal is to make cities that are attractive from a variety of viewpoints which

includes, making of cities that are both economically vibrant and also environmentally friendly. As

environmental and energy problems grow increasingly severe, and the need for sustainable growth

increases, smart cities are becoming more necessary and more popular.

Here in this topic we need to design a system which can help us to reduce carbon footprint by

saving electricity(energy) or even help us in controlling of city traffic using technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Sensors etc.

Starting with presentation

Identify various problems in your city and simply think what needs to be done if you want to make

your city cleaner, greener and friendlier. It starts from a road in front of your house with huge traffic,

to the problems related to garbage disposal in your vicinity, sometimes you see street lights are on in

the middle of day and sometimes crime take place in the dark street in old city area, problems are

countless but even solutions are multiple.

So here we are expecting a solution from your end which can provide us with some sustainable

model and when we are talking about solutions then ofcourse there will be some requirement of

huge mechanical systems, electronics systems, sensors and microcontrollers etc. So leaving all this creativity on you, its better to look at our city with one new dimension.

Showcase your project & increase your winning chance.

Although we know it is really difficult for you to come with a running prototype or project on the day of event but if anybody comes with working prototype then concerned team will be awarded with 20% extra points which they will get in their presentation round. The topic of present and prototype needs to remain same.

3. Mobile Application for Public Utility

Understanding Topic

We know onething “if problems are countless then their solutions are even multiple” and infact this is a line which we will take as a vision to solve lot of problems with our own creativity, well there is no specific problem statement which we will be giving you but we will surely be looking for a problem identified by you along with its solution through mobile app or presentation.

Starting with presentation

You need to design a presentation which will through light on undergiven things:-

1.Problem you identified.

2.Solution at your stage.

3.Audience for your app

4.How you will launch your application on ground?

5.Is your App venture is a billion dollor idea? If yes then a little discussion on how to make money and from where to get investment?

Showcase your project & increase your winning chance.

Although we know it is really difficult for you to come with a running App on the day of event but if anybody comes with running app or its prototype then concerned team will be awarded with 20% extra points which they will get in their presentation round.

1. Is it possible to have multiple winners at the end?

No, in this case we may add more rounds to the competition but result will definitely be

absolute.

2. Will I get certificate of participating in this event?

Everyone who will arrive at IIT Bombay campus to represent its zonal center will be

provided with Certificate of Participation subject to the condition that they must to compete

and maintain discipline at IIT Bombay campus.

3. Will you provide any prize or certificate to winners?

Top 3 individual/groups will be provided with certificates clearly mentioning their position in

final round along with a prize money or vouchers from EISystems.

4. I am not having a laptop of my own, Do I share it with my friend?

Yes you can definitely share the things with your friends and collegemates but in case you

ask organisers to arrange the same for you then they may not be able to help you due to lot

of other important work.

5. In which language do I need to make presentation?

English only.

6. Can we participate in a group?

Yes it is allowed subject to maximum of three participants in a group.

7. Do I use images, videos or audio in my presentation?

Yes you are allowed to use above mentioned things but in any case you will be required to end your

presentation in 5 minutes maximum.

8. Is there any query session after presentation?

Yes, there will be one query session for a maximum of 2 minute in which only judge(s) will be asking
questions but not from any audience.

9. Are you still having some queries related to competition?

Feel free to ask us by dropping an email at mechfest.workshops@gmail.com and we will be

there to help you in detail.
