Recent technological advances in Internet of Things (IoT), Computer Vision, Big Data Analytics and miniaturization of hardware have made possible several novel applications of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) beyond military use. Use of drones in aerial surveillance, precision agriculture, efficient delivery of services and such other everyday applications is transforming a futuristic vision of autonomous vehicles into a reality.
Novel applications using the geo-spatial data obtained from Drone cameras are enabling enterprises to enhance their customer value proposition. Drones have been used to help save wild life in South Africa, control the crowd in Kumbhamela, detect diseased crops and so on. It is now time for all technologists and business leaders to come together and discuss these emerging deep technologies, associated business landscape and be ready to ride this New Wave of Drone Computing.

IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter invites poster and demo submissions to the first ever Symposium on Drone Computing to be held on October 6, 2017 at Sterling Mac Hotel, Bangalore.
We expect the symposium to offer technically rich discussions, invited talks from experts in the field, workshop on Deep Learning and Drone Applications and peer reviewed poster presentations.The symposium aims to bring together researchers from different interdisciplinary branches of computational sciences and facilitate exchange of ideas to enable Novel Drone-based applications.
We are looking forward to a successful event with enthusiastic participation from researchers, practitioners from diverse disciplines as well as students. We welcome poster submissions on technology topics-related to Drones including but not limited to the following:

Jayavardhana Gubbi received the Bachelor of Engineering degree from Bangalore University in 2000, Ph.D. degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2007. For three years, he was a Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, where he was engaged in speech technology for Indian languages. Between 2007 and 2015, he worked as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, an Australian Postdoctoral Fellow - Industry (APDI) and Senior Research Fellow working on several industry linkage grants in biomedical signal processing, video processing and Internet of Things. He has co-authored more than 75 peer reviewed papers and filed 5 patents. He is currently working as a senior scientist in TCS Innovation Labs coordinating Machine Vision group and Vision for Drones program.
Dr. Ashish Verma is a Ph.D. from IIT Bombay and currently serving as Associate Professor of Transportation Engg. at Dept. of Civil Engg., Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation, and Urban Planning (CiSTUP), and Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber Physical Systems (RBCCPS) at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. Further, he was a Visiting Professor at ITMO University, Saint Petersberg, Russia during 2016. Before joining IISc, he has served in IIT Guwahati, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). His research interests are in; sustainable transportation planning, public transport planning and management, modeling and optimization of transportation systems, travel behaviour, driver behaviour and road safety, intelligent transportation system (ITS), traffic management etc. He has authored more than 100 research publications in the area of sustainable transportation and road safety. He has also authored a book on “Public Transport Planning and Management in Developing Countries” along with Prof. T.V.Ramanayya (Retd. Prof. IIM Bangalore), published by CRC Press. He is Editor of Transport Policy, Elsevier; Associate Editor of ‘Urban Rail Transit’, Springer; and editorial board member of other leading international journals of Elsevier, Springer, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and other publishers. He is the Founding and Current President of Transportation Research Group of India (TRG). He is presently serving as Country Representative from India, Vice Chair (Conference) of Scientific Committee, and Steering Committee Member of World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) based in University of Leeds, UK. He is also Co-Chair of Special Interest Group (SIG) H3 and G6 of WCTRS, which are focused on transportation in developing economies and disaster resilience.
