Khamoshi Sili Sili

Language: Hindi
National School of Drama Repertory Company, Delhi
Drama: Joseph Stein/Asif Ali Haider Khan
Direction: Suresh Sharma

This play is a translation of "Fiddler on the Roof" written by Joseph Stein and it’s a Musical production neatly bound to the Kashmiri situation dealing with the displacement issue of communities. Kashmiri pandit families live in Nandigram. They manage their daily expenses by doing various kinds of tasks. Prithvi Nath and Didda also live there with five daughters. Prithvi Nath sells sheep and livestock and works for Naanbai for a livelihood. Everyone respects Prithvi as a soulful representative of their village. The Kashmiri Pandit community used to follow their traditions and rituals, but gradually they had to compromise and Prithvi Nath was no exception. Incidentally, Prithvi Nath’s third daughter Shuhul secretly married a Muslim guy during the time of severe intolerance in the then Kashmir and the crisis emerged thereafter.

Through this play, we see that communal disharmony took place on many counts in spite of a Democratic power in rule leaving an eternal silence prevail forever!
