Synopsis: Lachhman Agaria, a blacksmith in British India, comes from a family that takes iron as their medium of art. Lachhman has to take up a job in a utensils factory which practically demotes him from an artist to a laborer, a fact he struggles to come to terms with. After 1947, Lachhman’s son Nawal also joins a factory as a worker. He dreams of a better world where the proletariat will have the power. He gets involved in Left politics and rises higher and higher and finally gets selected as a member of the parliament. At the height of popularity and fame, he realizes that his values changed drastically. Today he has money, power and fame but deep inside he is deserted, scared. He infers that in the course of breaking one oppressive institution he has actually built and got engulfed in an equally tyrannical institution. He knows he has to start afresh.
