Language: Bengali
Troupe: Hatibagan Sangharam, Kolkata
Drama: Anirban Bhattacharyya
Direction: Anirban Bhattacharyya

Synopsis: Choumatha, a collage of four stories, tries to trace the journey from the macro to the micro level of how we create a society of numbness and mediocrity. But the society we have created leaves us, the individuals, hanging in the ether of inactivity, of numbness and of fear, with a part of the mind racing and craving to hold on to something while the other part is too scared of reaction. Choumatha is a literary testimony of giving up and giving-in, through the times. It showcases the Bengali middle class society’s political character, human and inhuman nature, its dreams, its nightmares, its protests or the lack of it and its numbness. Choumatha traces all this not through history but through literature of different times, which find a theatrical expression here.
