Synopsis: Bonpahari is a poor, struggling village trying to stay alive on a dole provided by the government; its people can only wait for a miracle to save them from the depths of utter despair. The miracle comes in the form of Pratima Singha who comes back to her native village Bonpahari after almost thirty years. She promises to help the villagers provided they kill Kashinath, her former lover who had jilted her when she was pregnant and as a result she had been forced into prostitution. The villagers are initially aghast at such a proposal and rejects Pratima’s offer outright. But Pratima having conquered the world knows that it is only a matter of time before the desperate desire to survive and live a better life. Kashinath is helpless against their greed and their survival instinct and is ultimately killed. Pratima who had already become cold, inhuman and devoid of any moral values kills herself and falls beside Kashinath. This need to exact vengeance which had kept her alive and sustained her throughout these years is now no more.
